was the head server at one of Savannah's most successful and popular restaurants, The Firefly Cafe, catering to the best of this citys blue-bloods. But, once the restaurant was sold, everything changed. The new owners were running the business into the ground, my partner left, my father was diagnosed with a terminal illness, and my weight dropped to a 115 pounds. And while most people find themselves escaping into drugs and alcohol, I became obsessed with knitting. I spent long hours chugging beer after beer and working on any pattern I could come across, developing a psychotic routine of mindless action while life around me was crumbling.

MAD MAN KNITTING or The Waiter and The Fly eBook Gregory Patrick

I found Greg's blog and noticed the book in the sidebar. I liked the blog and took a risk ($2.99-some risk, I tip three times that for dinner sometimes) and bought it. I ended up staying up all night reading it. I particularly loved the use of "DRUNK" and "LAME" to describe the two characters who destroyed so much...I've worked for people like them and that did more to describe them than their real names.

What's it about? True story about a man's coping with death, life and the things that come between the two. I got it. I worked as a waitress, tried to teach myself to knit and just totally, totally got it. I hated to see it end and am looking for more of Greg's books. Awesome writing. There were half a dozen grammatical errors, which is nothing. I think my book had twice that...but that's just something I've learned to expect from Kindle books and self published authors. I love the "deleted" scenes at the end, the way he described lying on the bed after Stevie left, the pain, the tourists, the whole journey. Just an amazing, well-written book. Bravo! I hope you find a real publisher because it's awesome. It truly is.

MAD MAN KNITTING or The Waiter and The Fly eBook Gregory Patrick Reviews

So many books are written, but this? This one was told. Told in a way that reminded me of sitting over coffee, listening as the tale begins, then moving onto harder drinks as the tragedy of life steps in and knocks you to the floor. After staying up all night, holding hands with your friend, you nap briefly then wake to a fresh pot of coffee, knowing that the story continues with a brighter outlook.
...taking a peak at someone's life. I usually read technical books for work or fiction. Didn't expect to either be drone to a book of this sort, nor to enjoy it.

A huffington post lead me to the blog which led me to this book.

I bought it on instinct and Im very happy I did. I found it very well written, honest and pragmatic.

As an obsessive control freak myself, I put the ipad down, only when I was finished with the book.
Gregory is an excellent writer - I thoroughly enjoyed his narrative, his characters, his scenes, his writing. Thank you, Gregory, for sharing your life journey in this way, and helping us understand our own lives a little better.

To those who may be concerned about the editing yes, there are a few misspelled words / typos. Very, very few, buried in rich text that is well worth the ride. This is in really excellent shape for a self-published book. Get in the groove of the journey and you'll be fine.
I started to read Gregory's book and before you know it, the entire day had passed and I was still going. His writing is immensely engaging and he has a way of describing situations, relationships and events that paint a crystal clear picture of what happened. I couldn't wait to get to the next page to see what happened next.
What courage! What insight! What love! This is an amazing story and I guarantee that once you start the book, you won't be able to put it down until the last page is turned. Then, if you're like me, you'll have to start it all over again just to see how much you missed in your frenzy to get through his next life's event.

Bravo Gregory!!! I am so glad I bought your book.
Great story, needs a copy editor, a lot of spelling and grammar problems, so much so that it was difficult at times to figure out what the author meant to say. I did enjoy the story and the portrayal of the depression, grief and alcohol dependence was real and I felt sympathy for the author and his situation. Worth a read!
I read the book in one sitting, something I haven't done since college, so consider that to be high praise. Many people have mentioned the book could use a professional editor, which is certainly true, but I would say that what Gregory Patrick REALLY needs is a good literary agent. The text is a rough, and the overall structure needs some refining to clarify themes that run through the book, but Patrick's literary voice is very strong and the story is compelling. I hope that his brush with Internet fame for his clever article "I Was Questioned by the Police" will attract the attention of a publisher.
I enjoyed the book, Gregory gives a lot of insight into how things go in a top-level restaurant, and I felt his frustration as The Fly deteriorated. My only criticism of the book is that his proof reader did not pick up on several grammatical errors - sorry I'm so fussy, but I was educated in a very traditional English school, and also by a mother who would not tolerate poor English. So my mind trips up each time I came across this type of error. As a knitter, I was fascinated by his addiction to the fiber arts - yes I am somewhat addicted also, but, thank goodness, not to this extent.
